WHAT IS GROUNDING?

What is grounding? The health benefits and how you can do it.

grounding

Have you heard of the term grounding before? Over the many years of attending various spiritual groups and training courses, I have often come across the concept of grounding. However, it wasn't until I started working with energy and holistic healing that I realised its importance.

What is Grounding?  Grounding is a term that is also known as earthing. It's a therapeutic technique that helps us to connect our energy to the energy of the Earth. It's based on the idea that by allowing our bare skin to come into direct contact with the Earth (be it mud, rock, grass, sea or river water). We are connecting our energies to the energies of mother earth to soak up a negative charge and bring us back into a state of balance.

Have you ever spent time away in nature and left feeling refreshed, relaxed and uplifted? How much of that experience positively affected your wellbeing? and was that because of your physical connection to the Earth? I meet so many people who prefer to walk around barefoot both inside and outside because they like to feel more connected to the Earth.

According to Science & Physics, The Earth is electrically conductive and carries a mildly negative charge. When we connect our bodies to the Earth, we naturally draw that negative earth energy up into our internal bioelectrical energy, where it evens out the positive energy that we have built up—creating a sense of balance and harmony. Grounding is so good for us, and that's why so many meditation and spiritual practices include it in their practices.

There's a lot of emerging scientific research to support the physical, emotional, and mental benefits from practising grounding. Practising Grounding can help reduce stress and anxiety; it can help improve your sleep and mood. It promotes healing and relaxation. It helps to bring the body and mind back into a natural state of harmony and balance. Researchers have found that the Earth's electrons induce multiple physiological changes of clinical significance. People who practice grounding find it helps to reduce pain. It helps them sleep better. Research has shown a shift from sympathetic to parasympathetic tone in the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and a blood-thinning effect (Chevalier et al., 2012).

One of my favourite ways to intentionally practice grounding is to use Balance Essential Oil. I adore this essential oil (it is known as the oil of grounding). I use it every day to help soothe and calm my energy. I have been regularly buying this powerful essential oil in a 15ml bottle for the past couple of years. I am delighted that doTERRA recently launched it in a rollerball bottle that's super handy to take everywhere!
The Oil of Grounding Balance

I love to use it together to connect my breath and energy with the energy of mother earth to ground my energy. I find it makes such a difference to my mood. I don't feel as stressed, and I feel much calmer and able to focus more clearly.

I recently came across a wonderful video on YouTube that brought together Balance Essential Oil and Qi Gong Practice to ground and harmonize your energy. I highly recommend you watch it!

I often think that many of us in society have lost our connection to Mother Earth. We get so caught up in our busy lives with work, technology and being at home that we don't intentionally connect to Mother Earth. In this modern day, we wear shoes with rubber on our soles which block the flow of energy and connection to the Earth, so we aren't getting the opportunity to connect physically with the Earth as much as we once did.

How can you practice grounding?
You can easily practice grounding without having to spend any more on essential oils. A super-easy way to do it is to simply walk barefoot on the Earth, which can be on the grass or along the beach. Water is a natural conductor, so if the grounds are wet, then that's even better. If your like me and don't like walking around barefoot (I am always conscious that I might walk into something and hurt my feet), then using essential oils together with mindfulness and the power of intention are powerful ways to do it and my favourite essential oil to work with is Balance.

If you would like to try a sample of Balance essential oil, send me an email to info@deannathomastherapies.co.uk with your name and address and I will send you a sample to try!
