Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Traditional Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine, and it's estimated to be more than 3000 years old. It's based on the belief that it helps to restore the "Qi"  (life force energy) within the body.

Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles into various acupuncture points on the body. This small action can trigger a cascade of effects from increasing endorphins to boosting immune functioning to releasing anti-inflammatories (important in reducing swelling and supporting healing).

This holistic approach to health and wellness promotes the body's natural healing response. Traditional Acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms in isolation, so it can be used to treat a wide range of problems. Lots of people come for Acupuncture to help with specific conditions (such as back pain) or because they feel generally unwell and would like to enhance their wellbeing. Acupuncture is a wonderful form of ancient medicine that can help many people, treating a wide variety of conditions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) which provides guidelines for the NHS on the use of treatments and the care of patients, currently recommends acupuncture as a treatment for chronic pain and tension-type headaches & migraines.

acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles in various parts of the body.  when the needle is inserted you may feel a tingling sensation or a dull ache. most people find the process deeply relaxing and a pleasant experience.

acupuncture needles are very different from other needles you may have experienced before. they are very fine, so they don't feel the same as if you would have an injection. patients often tell me that they don't feel the needles being inserted and that it's really relaxing!

Acupuncture

Promotes blood flow and stimulates the release of oxytocin, activating the bodies own natural pain killers. It relaxes and releases muscle tension to activate the bodies own natural ability to heal.
